  • Why Size Textures?

    http://www.katsbits.com/tutorials/textures/make-better-textures-correct-size-and-power-of-two.php

Very good article on WHY VS… some guy in game told me…. Many THINK merely going by this rule means the ELIMINATION of ”LAG”. Nothing could be further from the truth. Although doing this LESSENS the lag and eliminates “Lag due to inappropriate sizing” It does NOT eliminate all Lag. Everything you see on your screen has to be rendered still. There’s a reason you have a GPU (video card). If you don’t believe this try shutting down your computer and running without a video card… (No don’t do that just making the point.
Everyone’s computer is different…. I often hear… “My computer don’t lag so there’s a problem with your machine otherwise you wouldn’t lag either”. This is completely the wrong way to looks at it. Lag is caused by both “Latency” (Load on your network Downloading the textures you see” and “rendering” the load on the GPU rendering the textures, which depends on both complexity of the textures and size overall in MB. (Plus the inefficiencies added by improper sizing).
Good places to research this include AMD.com (they bought out ATI) NVIDIA.com and several other well-known tech sites such as tomshardwae, com, maximumpc.com, PCWorld.com .. There’s a bunch of others.

This was Sent to me from whmsonic. Thise shows, Contrary to popular belief, All shoutcast servers have the same sound quality. Please read below.

LiveChat, thank you for your response.

    WHMSonic support team update:

The bitrate limit is just for AutoDJ only. The live streams are unlimited as long as you dont activate the bitrate limiter under the WHMSonic root >> WHMSonic Settings. So, simply give the customer 320kbps and tell them that their live stream bitrate limit is 640kbps and they can simply stream at 640kbps by using their stream programs, you dont need to configure any thing, it is on your customers stream programs, they can set 640kbps bitrate limit with their stream programs and it will work.

  • Stream skipping

One of the largest complaints from DJ’s and club owners is ” the stream is skipping” They perceive the  sound cutting in and out as the server not having the internet to connect to them or having issues

Very seldom is this actually the case. Here is what’s really behind these problems.

First off… you cant put  a ” stream” into the software on your pc. The information provided to you by your provider has a port number. That “Port” is the connection from the PC back to the server, which can contain at most 1 stream that all the customers connect to. This also Is why stream hosts know the difference between a “Stream” problem and a end user issue. Since everyone is connecting to the server and its 1 stream if “the stream” is down all the customers will be down. If some customers can connect ‘and  others can’t. It’s not the stream it’s something else. Good concept for troubleshooting.

Second… ” I have 100MB internet speed! don’t tell me its my net!”  Yeah… The issue is you’re streaming FROM your computer not to ie downloading. When you’re streaming you’re uploading and therefore check your internet speed at place like speedtest.net. Just the other night i was testing someone’s speed just to show her. Yes her download was 53MB but her upload was only 5MB After running skype, her windows updates downloading her other programs updating…basically 10 MB of crap trying ot go through a 5 MB pipe. Needed to turn some stuff off temporarily and all was good.  This is not to say you need even 5 MB of bandwidth to upload/ stream. Most DJs run 128KB  but even if youre trying to stream at 320 kb thats still far less than 1 MB. So the only thing that would cause skipping would be if there are other things uploading besides you’re  encoder. Things like updates, Skype,, ect and theres a lot that runs in the background.
